Xai Xai (pronounced shy-shy) is situated on the banks of the Limpopo River in the Limpopo Valley; known as the "Bread basket" of Mozambique as much rice and cereal crops are grown here. Located around 200km North from Maputo, Xai Xai is the capital of Gaza Province.
Xai Xai offers tourists busy markets, shops, restaurants, pubs, filling stations, ATM facilities and a post office.
There are many good restaurants in Xai-Xai, all serving seafood and Eastern and African influenced delicacies.
Xai Xai beach has been a popular tourist destination for many years with many coral reefs off shore offering gentle waters for swimming and snorkeling. Praia do Xai Xai is about 12km from the Xai-Xai town. Long sweeping white sands on the beach are perfect for relaxing and the waters are safe for swimming.
